Co-operative Control (Co-op) Systems are next generation building controls
using wireless sensor networks to allow disparate existing systems within
commercial buildings to work together to perform in more effective and
coordinated ways. Use of wireless sensors and wired portions of existing
networks enable higher-level control and monitoring functions to be realized.
For example, energy conservation (security systems, as well) is enhanced
with accurate information (throughout a building) including temperatures,
occupancy, humidity, and lighting usage. Sensors can be retro-fitted
providing this essential data. The group is developing wireless sensors
and actuators to allow the placement of these devices in areas where
network cable, power, or other wiring is prohibitively expensive.
